Once you park your car (There is ample parking, before 9am you will however have to park by the restaurant) look towards to the crosswalk. The way to the trail is between that and the guard rail. It is not marked at this point, however it is very easy to follow. You will walk down the embankment and follow the trail for about .2 miles. Then you will see the official trail head.
The trail itself is a wonderful trail. It is largely shaded so it can be a bit chillier. The trail for the most part is in good condition, however some areas have eroded. Be warned however due to the curves of the trail you must keep an eye out for mountain bikers. The group that I shared the trail with where polite and let me know when the last one had rode past. However had it not been for them yelling at me, I would not have seen them coming until it was too late. Also there were canine paw prints in the snow, so it could be safe to assume that people walk their dogs on this trail.
As you drive up you can see the hills that where scorched by the Aspen fire in 05. Per the maps there are a number of springs around the trail, I however had a 3 year old in tow and could not go a verify. Be warned the hills around this trail are steep. So if you want to go "off trail" make sure you can do it. At the top you can catch the ski lift back down to Ski Valley. While you are here I recommend looking over the wooden barrier by the restaurant to see the view of the valley below. |
