| no partners | | We had looked at doing this trail for quite some time. We even tried last April and found the roads closed still from the winter and had to pick an alternate hike once we arrived on the rim. This time, I called ahead and was assured the roads were open for the season. The drive to Telephone Ridge was easy and accessible for most any vehicle but took some time due to rough roads. The path down from the top was easy to find and extremely steep. This made it slow moving for our little ones. We took children with us ages 4 to 18 and all of them were able to make the hike carrying backpacks. Once in the meadow at the bottom, we stopped under a tree for a rest before continuing on to our campsite for the next couple days. From there it became a little more difficult. We crossed the creek and struggled finding a route for about a mile and a half up stream. Eventually, we came to a nice campsite near the creek and spent the next couple nights there. On our hike out, we discovered that we had crossed the creek too soon and a more clear trail exists on the west bank of the creek. The hike out turned out to be much more enjoyable and required far less bushwhacking than our adventure in. The hike back up to Telephone Ridge was difficult but with a few breaks along the way, we all made it. |
