| no partners | | Jumped off around Wildcat bridge and backpacked downstream with my wife and 2 larger dogs. Lots of river crossings. As has been mentioned, the trail can be lost here and there due to less traffic on this section of the trail. Saw some bighorn sheep, a couple of deer, and flushed a couple coveys of mearns quail. No bears as I was hoping to see.
Enjoyed fishing the river, caught browns and a couple apaches/rainbows (can't be sure) as well as a couple smallmouth.
We overnighted a mile or a bit more from the reservation line- next time we'll make it all the way to the line, but it started getting pretty steep and cliffed out, plus we were tired from a full day of hiking an fishing. Really enjoyable in and back overnight trek. Will return.
Looks like the Rattlesnake fire (April 2018) may have affected this area... anyone have any reports from the fire-mapped area since then?
