Bored on a Thursday so I thought I'd sprint out here for a little exercise / scenery. The road (525C) is well-worn but relatively smooth excerpt for the last mile or so.
Hadn't rained in the area for months, so every aspect of the trip was dry, dry, dry. Dust on the road, dry stock tanks, no water whatsoever in upper Sycamore Creek. Trail is pretty well traveled to Sycamore Pass Tank; while it seems to get much less traffic beyond there it's still easy to follow. Loose roller rocks and sneaky prickly pear will keep you alert as to where you put your feet; only a couple of unpretentious cairns were seen on the way.
Having gotten a somewhat late start I didn't expect to get all the way to the creek crossing. I was satisfied with stopping roughly a mile short, after getting some nice views of the (parched) creek bed.
One of these days I'll get the timing right to overnight at Taylor Cabin.
