| no partners | | Had a great time running Bear Canyon in West Clear Creek with my wife and son today. Wetsuits definitely came in handy, as the water is still quite cold.
We opted to take the two optional rappels just as you’re getting into the slot, before you get to what is labeled as OBSTACLE 1. What can I say, we never want to pass by an opportunity to hang ourselves over a rock attached to a rope?
Water was still pretty clear, though starting to turn a little stagnant in the pools.
All holes were still relatively easy to get out of. Not sure at what state any of these become keepers.
After we made it through the slot section, we took off the wetsuits and ate lunch. When we got to the 30-40 foot cliff below the slot (which has a trail around to the left), we decided to see if we could rappel there as well. We tied webbing to a large pine and my wife went first. When she got over the edge, I noticed some movement in the tree. I looked up and realized the tree was dead . After she made it safely to the bottom, we abandoned that plan, pulled everything off the trunk and hiked around to the left.
The hike out of West Clear Creek is steep, but pretty short. |
