I have been craving the sound of flowing water, but a lot of my usual hidden gems are dry as a bone these days. I knew Horton would 100% have water, but I did not want to deal with the massive crowds and children everywhere. I had done various sections of the Highline Trail and was confident in that route as an alternative way to reach the creek. When I plotted it out, I estimated 3.5 miles each way, but in reality it ended up being over 4 miles each way. Parts of it were completely shaded but then other parts of it were completely exposed. The trail was up and down both ways, consistently challenging my (lack of) stamina. BUT - I got to cross three creeks and it was completely worth it! Some stretches were more boring than others, but you go through a diverse range of settings and terrains.
