| partners | | HELLO HIKERS! this is my first ever triplog and im so excited to share it with Grasshopper:)
Starting off the hike, it was pretty chilly. I had on a couple of layers of jackets that came off about ten minutes into the hike down into bear canyon. This was Grasshoppers fourth attempt to find an easy route into bear canyon and boy did we! The whole way down was guided by animal paths making it an easy decent (coming back up took a little more effort as we were TIRED). Upon arrival into bear canyon, we skipped rocks across a beautiful (what I would consider a) pond. There were so many butterflies! I was actually able to slowly approach one and whisk it away on my finger! Grasshopper was jussssst a little too slow to get the picture, but the memory counts more. I believe it was a Weidemeyer's Admiral. In the forecast for the day was the first monsoon of the season!!! I was so excited to hike in the rain and get the full Arizona experience! Around 11:39am, we had to put on our ponchos as Grasshopper advised the rain can come down fast, hard, and out of nowhere. You really don't want to get caught in it and get your pack soaked. My poncho was an adult size large and bright red, needless to say I felt like some version of Little Red Riding Hood. We kept making jokes that I might catch wind and Mother Nature would then whisk ME away! Luckily I stayed planted to the Earth. The rain came off and on and only really came down hard for a couple of minutes around 11:58. I got a super cool video of the raindrops falling! We made out way back to the water where we first skipped rocks to enjoy lunch before we began our uphill climb. According to the timestamps on my photos, we began climbing around 12:52 and both Grasshopper and I were back at the vehicle at 1:29! I made it up a little before him because I ended up having some extra energy and decided to run up the last bit (bad idea I felt like I was going to die after... okay that's a little dramatic but I was mega tired! 10/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND RUNNING UP THE HILL). Grasshopper and I took a couple more picture before we began our drive across the Mogollon Rim, through Strawberry and Payson, and back to our humble home. all in all, this hike was very doable and full of fun memories and new experiences!
