blind person looking for hikes

Postby n7zzt » Mar 05 2011 2:11 am

hey guys,
I happen to be a blind person with some trail experience (just not much in the last decade or so) looking to get back into
the activity. I haven't had a lot of luck getting on with any clubs (very little response to e-mails I have sent).

I want to hike, but find it hard to do so alone. I have thought up some means where I can follow someone already in
the group and even have a pair of single piece white canes to use. I can use bells attached to the person in front of me
for sonic guidance, so that is not a problem. all I need is a group to go with.

anyone willing to take me on?

Hi, saw you on another website! Hope someone on here can help you out. I don't live nearby or I'd be happy to go for a hike with you.

thanks for the response. I wouldn't mind hiking anywhere in arizona personally. the only issue would be getting a ride to the meeting point.
I'm game for just about anything.

Once we're down in Casa Grande I've got to figure out where to hike! After that, you're welcome to come along.

well, there are a few places over that way to hike. there is picacho peak, or a number of hikes in apache junction. or you can come over to this side of the valley and try t-bird park or white tanks. the possibilities are pretty unlimited.

Have you heard of Mike Armstrong? http://blindmotivation.com/adventures-2 ... dventures/ He was part of the group of blind people that did a rim-to-rim in the Grand Canyon last fall and this spring he's planning on hiking the Arizona Trail. He and his group may be able to help you find sighted companions to hike with. Worth a try contacting him.
