| partners | | After doing a pretty hard trip the day before Joel and I decided to do an "easy" trip. Then normal start for this adventure is from the I-17 side but I wanted to save time so I figured out a spot that looked like we could easily drop into Pumphouse Wash. We essentially did the hike in reverse by doing all the non-technical parts first. I personally think this is a good idea since why would you want to carry wet stuff a long way?
Kelly is a pretty canyon with a trail running along it. That made travel pretty quick. We made a mistake that we had been warned about and nearly continued up the wrong arm of Kelly.
James is an awesome canyon. Technically it is not hard. The longest rappel is 40 feet. It has a few down climbs and cold swims. We even found that there was a sport climbing area before the long swim.
Overall this is an easy canyon, but the mileage of rock hopping can wear you out. So I started to look for routes out of the canyon when we hit Pumphouse Wash. I did find one the exited pretty early. If I were to do it again, I'd stay in until the old road crosses the wash and use that as the exit back to the car.
