| no partners | | We have begun section hiking the AZ trail and hiked passage 1 nbo from the Coronado Monument to Parker Lake Aug 28 and 29th. The weather was perfect, the temperatures ideal and the scenery magnificent. There was a profusion of wildflowers in rainbow hues all along the trail, primarily at the 8000 +/- elevation. For the first 13 miles, the trail, while crowded with lush growth, was fairly easy to follow, and we did not get sidetracked by any illegal immigrant trails.
Bathtub springs was flowing at a good volume and the bathtub was full and overflowing. We saw a whitetail doe at the springs. She wasn't bothered by our appearance - if fact, she was quite curious about us.
We camped in a saddle at about mile 10.5. There was evidence of illegal activity, but the trash appeared to be quite old, and we saw no evidence of recent activity anywhere along the trail. We did, however, see signs of fairly recent ATV activity within the wilderness boundary between Sunnyside Canyon and the boundary.
Because of all the recent heavy rainfall, the trail from Rattlesnake Spring west to the Wilderness Boundary was pretty badly washed out. Water was very abundant and flowing from this point thru Sunnyside canyon and in Scotia Canyon. Often times there wasn’t a distinction between the natural creek and the trail/ 2-track -this could be problematic for a SBO hiker. |
