Gorgeous hike with fantastic rocks/geology. I will say however that this hike is not as described on this site which I am sure has everything to do with the passage of time and various storm activity. It is noted on the trail description page to read recent triplogs as this area experienced a large storm in 2010 which altered the trail... I would definitely recommend that you do this and allow for ample time to complete the second half of the South Fork trail which is clogged by fallen trees and much overgrowth. Towards the end of the South Fork we ended up abandoning the trail entirely because the fallen trees and overgrowth made it nearly impossible to hike, we ended up climbing a ridge which would lead us to the return Gold Ridge trail, with GPS we felt confident we would make it to the return trail via the ridge, which we did. With that said this is one of the more beautiful hikes that I have done in a long time, the trees had fall colors and the creek was running. Gold Ridge trail was fast, straight forward and easy going.
