Overview
Benson Canyon Spur Trail #5005A is a 0.82 mile one way hike with 172 feet elevation gain. Located 12 miles east-southeast of Alamogordo New Mexico. April and March are the best months to enjoy this hike.


It begins at the Benson Canyon trail (T5005) and ends at the Benson Ridge / Bluff Springs trail (T5006). The trail is open for the following uses: Hiking, Horseback Riding, Off Highway Vehicles (OHV) less than or equal to 50 inches wide.

One of our many historic railroad grades now converted into a USFS trail. Either all or most of this trail follows the old steam engine route.
