This trail does appears to be a work in progress. Page stats & route are currently a guess. Hiker beware.

Theoretically 3.1 mile one-way but you start from a temporary connector trail starting at the HV73 marker. I expect the Axle Grease Trail to extended to the trailhead when it's finished.

The trail itself is very nice and fairly smooth. It is a little twisty but the surface of the trail is mostly dirt with very few rocky areas. It also has the Rawhide Wash on the east side of it and a state temporary road on the west. Lots of vegetation which I enjoy seeing and I am sure it will get better with rain.

The Pima/Dynamite Trailhead is not open yet. Even though I got in the Scottsdale Police had to open the gate to let me out. Might be water and restrooms at the trailhead in the future.

Check out the Official Route and Triplogs.

Gate Policy: If a gate is closed upon arrival, leave it closed after you go through. If it is open, leave it open. Leaving a closed gate open may put cattle in danger. Closing an open gate may cut them off from water. Please be respectful, leave gates as found.

New trail in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. I parked on Pima Rd about 3/4 of a mile North of Dynamite on the West side of the road at a step over. Followed a dirt road about 300 feet to a trail signed Axle Grease. Hiked North for 2.5 miles and returned the same way. Trail winds up down and around. With 156 of AEG there is very little elevation change. Hearing that before to long Pima Rd in that area will be signed No Parking forcing hikers/bikers to park at new TH at Pima & Dynamite. At this time, to reach the trails in this area requires about 1.5 miles of under power-lines trial. :(
