Great way to burn off your lunch by PaleoRob Warning Mountain biking can be dangerous - please know your skill level and be appropriately prepared with PPE before starting any trail. Overview This short stretch of the trail takes you from the Little Park Road up to the junction of the Eagle Wing Trail. This allows for creating a short loop by connecting to Eagle Wing (eastbound) and then Tabaguache and then back to Little Park Road, or longer, more complex (and technical) routes over the ridge and down into the badlands of Miramonte and Lunch Loops.
This segment starts at the Little Park Road, just downslope from the Little Park Staging Area. Although there is no signed parking area, the Tabaguache Trail is gated on the west side of the road, which provides an easy landmark, as does the broad parking area on the southeast side of the road. The trail itself is relatively easy but has a steady uphill climb. As you pass through Pinon-Juniper woodlands, there are spectacular views of the Grand Valley and occasionally the deep canyons and slickrock of the Bangs Canyon/Ribbon Trail area to the south. The trail comes to a T at Eagle Wing, with either a left (west/uphill) or right (east/downhill) option. Depending on your plans, this is your decision plan as it is, literally, the end of the trail. Water Sources None, bring all you need. Camping No. Note This trail is rated Blue (Intermediate) for mountain bikers. Gate Policy: If a gate is closed upon arrival, leave it closed after you go through. If it is open, leave it open. Leaving a closed gate open may put cattle in danger. Closing an open gate may cut them off from water. Please be respectful, leave gates as found. The exception is signage on the gate directing you otherwise. Check out the Triplogs. Leave No Trace and +Add a Triplog after your hike to support this local community. One-Way Notice This hike is listed as One-Way. When hiking several trails on a single "hike", log it with a generic name that describes the hike. Then link the trails traveled, check out the example. |
