Canyons are inherently risky. Flash floods occur without notice on sunny days. Technical skills & surrounding topography knowledge required yet does not eliminate risk.
![]() Overview: A somewhat interesting off trail hike through pine-juniper (and bear) country in the Big Lue Mountains near the AZ-NM border. A few potholes hold seasonal water; there are several small (10 foot) waterfalls. Easily accesible on the south at Phillips Tank, via Blackjack Campground. Access on the north along highway 78 requires skirting rivate property. Check out the Triplog. Leave No Trace and +Add a Triplog after your canyon trip to support this local community. |
