Glitzy Cosmic Exploration by pseudalpine This short hike's cultural and scenic rewards are located on the prominent southern slopes of Mount Hollywood within the 4,210-acre Griffith Park in the eastern Santa Monica Mountain range, just northeast of Los Angeles' Los Feliz enclave. Formerly known as the East Observatory Trail, this is the most direct path from free parking to the renowned Griffith Observatory (except for maybe following the sidewalks up the North Vermont Canyon and East Observatory Roads).
The route ends at a scenic bluff and upper trail junction, where one must turn right and follow the Observatory Trail north, up another 120 feet, for less than an additional quarter mile to reach the observatory grounds. The building's art deco architecture has many areas setup to scope out the great views of the Los Angeles Basin and San Gabriel Mountains. Check out the Official Route and Triplogs. Leave No Trace and +Add a Triplog after your hike to support this local community. One-Way Notice This hike is listed as One-Way. When hiking several trails on a single "hike", log it with a generic name that describes the hike. Then link the trails traveled, check out the example. |
