Wonder if this is why on Sept 18 Garmin also introduced pay as you go $8/month service plan for those only interested in the inreach SOS support but the other features are available for a few pennies but by the drink.

At the bottom of the SRP managed dam they have a tiny garden variety spigot. They open it in the spring and close it in the fall per the SRP flow website to keep the creek from running totally dry.
Dam used to spill frequently after the winter melt per HAZ triplogs.

Re: Alternative destinations for those impacted by AZ forest closures
thank you as I'll check it out. @hiking_arizona Kendall Mountain isn't great, all jeep road and you can drive to the top. I'm getting away due to the closures & heading for Durango and staying 4 days near Purgatory and looking for dayhike suggestions under 15 miles RT as I've reviewed many of the HAZ trip reports for the area and can't decide. Kendall Mountain looks interesting but beta so far is limited. Trailhead...

Re: Cocodona 250 Mile Race from Black Canyon to Flagstaff via Mt Elden
All this could be true but it doesn't change my basic feelings. If I I go out for a hike I don't want to accidentally run into a bunch of people in a race, or their accompanying vehicular or pedestrian entourages. FR143 gate and road was also open for business from the Beeline side.
All other roads from the Beeline were still gated and closed.
