Randal, I always enjoy reading your trail descriptions. The detail in them are just incredible! Very well written and photographed. Your obvious hard work and the hard work of others truly make HAZ the best hiking resource on the net! Congratulations on your milestone...it is much appreciated. :bigt...

Humphreys update...

If you're planning to do the Peaks this weekend be prepared for a possible snow event. A weather system moving in tonight lasting thru the morning tomorrow could bring additional snow to the Weatherford Trail and new accumulation to the Humphreys Trail. If your heart is still set on hiking it - the ...

Didn't like any of the choices in the poll, so I'll place my vote here - for cannabis sativa. Ironic how "legal" substances like cigs, booze & painkillers can be the most harmful. But rest assure that the good ole' boys in Corporate America sincerely care about the well being of Americans ($$) :? -p...

In response to cass1234's reply:

very good points. plus alcohol is a poisonous toxic.

I usually don't puff when doing just day hikes. But on overnites and/or extended backpackin trips I will bring along some tasty organics from my garden.

In response to mikeinFHAZ's reply: Speaking of cell phones on the trail...the user must be a very important person if they can't leave their phones turned off long enough to enjoy nature. Sad that they are slaves to an electronic device. I encounter much of this on the city trails in PHX. I guess t...

clean air - happy lungs

little short notice but doing a mid-week trek up humphreys - just a day thing (in feb - who'd thunk) it's way wrong that the trails leading up are even passable (what global warming?) but at least its a clean alternative from breathing the nasty stuff lingering around the Valley. anyways will be chi...

Re: Hike with fall colors for this weekend.

In response to ChefTIO's reply:

yes, I suggest the Inner Basin. At the begining of the trail, there might be a running creek for the dog. Prob doing it Friday. I'll report back.

In response to matt gilbert's reply: Matt, I agree. There are some that might have a consumption problem. But again, you can say that about any vice - as stated before in an earlier thread. I guess that old saying - "moderation is a good thing" btw...I was just awaken @ 3am by a skunk in my garage!...

In response to pfredriBut, smokin weed is like being in a bad relationship. The problems can seem obvious to everyone else, but not the person involved.

what "problems" are you referring to?

In response to matt gilbert's reply: bro...you're soooo wrong. Yes, people who have an addictive personality whether it being sex or drugs or hiking will perhaps want to experiment further with their selected vice. But to make a broad statement like "pot is a gateway drug" - is just not correct or ...

Re: Legalize it!!

I think the worst thing that could happen is Cannabis Hemp become legal across the board. Overnight, prices for materials needed to homegrow herb would then sky rocket. Corporate America would be the only ones to benefit. (I did vote "yes" on prop 200 in '02 to decrimianlize Majijuana) Doctors today...

In response to mcontreras' reply: Venturing above the tree line during the monsoon season is always a risk - with or without extra weight. Early morning start times are best to avoid unexpected weather - lighting and such. Most storms form around 11am almost on a daily basis. If you're wondering ab...

I'm all about weight. Be it a day hike or backpakin a few days. Any type of firearms to me are unnecesarry weight. (unless of course you are a card carrying member of the NRA and enjoy tugging your ATV along with you everywhere you go) Didn't some bright GOP legislature try to introduce a bill to al...
