Thank you guys for your input! I guess I’ll wait until after summer to hike the Superstitions. Yes, there was a lot of stagnant water, so maybe that was the reason for all the flies. It was really crazy though because at the end of the trail there were so many flies that I could hardly see at times...

Flies in the Superstitions
I've been looking forward to hiking the Superstitions and thought I'd start out with the Hieroglyphics Trail for my first hike. BOY was I disappointed! Don't take me wrong, it's beautiful up there. BUT...... :x GRRRRrrrrrrrrrr.....There were soooooooo many darn flies!!! Is this just a seasonal thin...

OH MY!!!!!!!!! This has made me nervous! :o I absolutely HATE snakes and creepy crawly things. Mice and snakes on the trail........eeeeeeeekkkkkkkkssss! What have I gotten myself into???Maybe I'll just hike Squaw Peak in the mornings when a lot of other people are there until summer is over with :?:

Thanks again everyone for all your help!!! By the way Abe, I love your stick :) I just think it might be too cumbersome for me…??? Another question……Does the pole/stick get in the way on the steeper trails like the ones at Picacho Peak where you have to use your hands too??? I haven't hiked there y...

Hey Guys........Thanks again for all the help! I didn't by a treking pole yet.....SO.....HUMmmmmmmm.....maybe I'll try a stick first before spending the money??? BUT.....Where would I find a stick like that?

Okay.....I'm new to this
I go hiking every day......Squaw Peak......BUT........I hike in my tennis shoes. They are so comfortable. Are hiking boots a necessity when doing longer hikes
