Salome and the jug
Every year I do the salome jug hike around this time. Due to the lack of rain and snow this year I don't know if there is going to be enough water in the bed to do it. I was wondering if anyone has been down there recently and if so if there was enough water there to do the jumps and slides. Any inp...

I've seen some of the falls/holes like that. Can't remember exactly where in hellsgate it was though. If you are looking for a similar hike with pools like those, check out the salome jug hike on here. There are a ton of gorgeous granite pools on the hike. I just did it yesterday and the water was g...

The good swimming hole is probably 2.5 to 3 miles off of the trail head. The 11 year old will definitely be able to swim in all of the areas. We've taken scouts in and they have swam and done the smaller jumps. There is a shallow area at the main swimming hole as well that would be good for the youn...

I 100% agree with transtech. Why should this one person have it named after her. Did she do anything more than the other hundreds of thousands of soldiers that are in Iraq??? Is she any more important than any of them???? NO. I am not saying that she didnt give up her life for our country at all. Sh...

Escalante is awesome. I did it last year right about this time. Do check the weather for those days that you are going in just to be safe. Slot canyons are fine to spend a couple of days in, there are flash floods occasionally just check the weather. It is not rainy season down here right now so the...

I don't know about rattlesnakes inside tents but I have heard that snakes will come in for the heat. A friend of mine woke up in the morning with one in the bottom of his sleeping bag with him. Mind you, he was not in a tent and just sleeping out. I have lived in AZ my whole life and have only seen ...
