Re: Get out of the heat in Northeastern AZ - July

@ArizonaSquirrel I've never lived out there like @azbackpackr , but I have spent quite a bit of time out there. The town of Alpine is the closest to the hikes that you mentioned. The setting is beautiful, but there aren't really any permanent cultural attractions, like an art district. However, the...

@Al_HikesAZ
Thanks! But they tend to have better, and more gear than I do!

Re: so long AZ and THANK YOU HAZ!

It was nice unexpectedly running into you in the middle of the Hellsgate Wilderness at a random spot near Haigler Creek a few years back! Happy hiking in CA!

Re: Short Hike with kids

I'm sure you know this, but cabin loop is similar terrain with more kid-friendly, first-time hiker terrain. And out-and-back on Houston Brothers would be perfect. Pinchot Springs is a quick payoff that's exciting for kids. Take plenty of time to mess around in there, then if they're willing you can ...

@LauraZirino
I would only start at Bullpen if you're not comfortable with the terrain described for Point Trail. Bullpen actually has a trail that follows the creek for a few miles, just a few easy crossings required. Otherwise, Point is much prettier.

Re: Point Trail, West Clear Creek

@LauraZirino Good to see you on HAZ! Nonot's reply is spot-on in my opinion. You'll be wading up to waist deep for much of it. I've done Point Trail numerous times, and as far as I can remember, I've never felt inclined to drybag my gear (although I've never gone too far in either direction). Go do...

Re: Fatality for Arizona Hiker on Mt. Hood

Very sad. I just don’t understand leaving a injured person behind! I don't think anyone left an injured person behind. Sounds like he was tired and they decided to complete the last ~1 mile at different paces. I've done it several times when hiking with another person, sometimes while leading and so...

Havasupai. Sit on the phone for days, spend 100 bucks on permits, drive 5 hours, and hike 10 miles to set camp up at a crowded campground and hang out by a crowded waterfall.

I'm also confused. They're opening a Starbucks in a town near the Grand Canyon. I don't see how that's even news, much less shocking or depressing news. Frankly, I'm shocked there isn't one there yet.
