Re: water AZT#18 Reavis Canyon

@xsproutx The concrete trough at mud spring was dry. I followed the instructions in the metal box to walk up the wash (and your comment) to the actual spring. Wish I had known about the 'blue bandana' markers at the trail that point to the spring instead of getting scratched up walking up that cree...

Re: water AZT#18 Reavis Canyon

@xsproutx Finally got out there, as xsproutx predicted there was water at mud spring and Reavis creek. Also at walnut spring. And there are pools in the stream beds from picket post to walnut spring although they may not last long as it was getting hot. However at Reavis creek it was in the 20's or...

Re: water AZT#18 Reavis Canyon

@xsproutx
Thank you very much ! Ill change my plan to

1) hwy 60 to mud spring.
2) mud spring to reavis creek
3) reavis to walnut spring
4-5 -> back

Is mud spring close to the 'trough', presumably follow a pipe from the trough ?

water AZT#18 Reavis Canyon

Im thinking of hiking this section next week. Has anyone been to these
potential water sources lately ? Ive seen the "FarOut" data.

mile 311 Reavis trail canyon
mile 318 Rogers spring
mile 324 Reavis creek (assume Walnut spring at 328 has water)

Thanks - Rob

Re: Papago wall / slide

@big_load
thank you ! It looks like you 'stayed left' as you descended the slide which seems to be
the recommended way. Not a good place to get lost for sure.

Re: Papago wall / slide

@ddgrunning Thank you ! The sucker trails and the exposed ledges are what I was afraid of. I think I now know to turn " left " at the sign of a trail /cairn heading left up the hill. That article is very helpful thanks, I'm going to try that suggested route up the wall (go left) seems to ...

Re: Papago wall / slide

I got it figured out with the help of the hiker that I went with. Apparently after the wall is scaled the route heads up a rocky slope at the top of which are a series of chutes. The leftmost chute(s) are claimed to be less constricting. At the top of the chutes is a bench on which the trail heads t...

Papago wall / slide

Hi I'm doing the escalante route in a couple weeks. I did it last year with someone who has done it and I'm having trouble remembering what happens after the Papago wall is scaled. I know the path is up river and quickly comes into the slide area but I can't remember the details of that connecting s...

Re: Mazatzal temps

@The_Eagle @xsproutx Thank y'all ! I was thinking of doing the "Blue Ridge" section further north but 69-75 deg seems quite nice so Ill stick with Peely. Last time I was there about 12 yrs ago I remember crawling over burned trees and the "trail" was marked by orange tape ! Gett...

Mazatzal temps

Hi Im considering doing the AZT section from Mt Peeley north
to Hopi spring. I see Payson weather will be in the mid 80's in the days planned. My question is will the temps on this section be about the same as in Payson ? If yes it may be too hot and I'll go to the Pine area instead, thanks ! - Rob
