Re: Black and Blue Toenails - Yuk!!
I had that happen once after a long down hill
. Mine happened because my hiking boots were to small. Purchased a new pair that were fitted at REI, and done the same trail 3 other times. No probelms since. I think I'd get new boots.

Re: Water filters/purifiers
I use a first need water purifier. It weighs around 18 ounces but filters down to .01 microns. It claims to take everything (including viruses) out of the water and I haven't had a problem yet. It costs around 80 bucks. I have also used iodine tablets and bleach, personally I like the purifiers (no...

I know one thing. They are downright horrible at Fossil Springs, they trample every thing in site and leave fire pits full of melted plastic. It seems to me that at least one troop would take the initiative to clean up. I guess there is too much to pack out. I must speak up for our Troop. We were a...

Re: Boy Scouts - Good or Bad?
From time to time I have read some forum posts that make reference to Boy Scouts - mostly in a negative manner. I was wondering how everyone feels about them. I know that it can sometimes be a downer to be out on a trail and come across a herd of noisy teens, but on the other hand I am in full supp...

There is plenty of room to camp for the night at the trail head. Nothing to write home about, but it will enable you to get an early start in the morning. Not a bad view to wake up to either.

Re: Havasu Trail Head info
The parking lot is large enough for ~200 cars. Folks sleep in the parking on the ground, in tents, and on cots. We slept in the back of my Explorer. The ground is a little hard for tent stakes. There is a restrooms at the trailhead if you need to use the facilities. Didn't see any water.

Water Quality
I just returned from Havasupai 2 1/2 weeks ago. In the campground there is chlorinated water that tastes like pool water. Some people were drinking that. Also, Fern Springs had a pipe coming out of the canyon wall. I had a filter, but after talking with other campers my son and I drank the water fro...
