Re: Lost Camera Red Hills Needle Canyon

@RowdyandMe
I think it has to do with a mining claim, but I can't really speak with authority on it.

Re: Lost Camera Red Hills Needle Canyon

@Alston_Neal
I do indeed exist - don't know why a PM would not have gone through. Hope you can make it back someday. You won't recognize Narrow Cape - there's a frickin launch complex out there now. Ruined it.

Re: Lost Camera Red Hills Needle Canyon

The camera has been FOUND! Unbelievable! The finder was able to track me down because of a patch on my pack that was visible in my Battleship Mtn summit selfie. The patch was the Alaska Mountain Rescue Group - the photo was posted on their Facebook page and a friend of mine saw it and tagged me.

Re: Goldfield Mountains Hikes not found

@hikeaz et al, I agree that his book is difficult to decipher at times and needlessly filled with various ratings that seem unnecessary and confusing. I'm hiking out there for the same reason - avoid the crowds in the Supes. Hiking is "in" and all the cool people are doing it so they can post on In...

Re: Goldfield Mountains Hikes not found

If Tenney's book was universally accepted by all hikers in the Goldfields, I'd expect some of the names would overlap. Makes sense - I do find it interesting that when I examine the tracks on the Goldfield Mountains map, I don't see many of his hikes with either his hike name or a different name. H...

Goldfield Mountains Hikes not found

I'm perusing Ted Tenny's Goldfield Mountain Hikes and I'm not finding very many of them by name on Hikearizona.com - for example, several routes that begin at the Willow Springs TH such as Disaster Canyon and Disaster Ridge do not come up on searches. I've looked at the Goldfield Mountains map with ...

Bull Basin "Springs"

The trail map shows unnamed "Springs" on the Bull Basin Trail near the Gov't Hill trail - I can't find a water report. Anyone know if there is water there? I'd like to bivy on Government Hill and don't want to haul water up if I can find it there. Thanks.

Looking for long loop/noose from Pinto Creek TH

I'm thinking of starting at Pinto Creek TH, hiking Haunted Canyon to Bull Basin to West Pinto to Wildcat Canyon to FS 305 to Pinto Peak #213 to Campaign. Then Campaign back to the Miles TH area, Paradise back to Haunted Canyon to Pinto Creek TH. Other suggested cowboy camping sites? Reliable water s...

FR516 Humphrey's TH camping?

Can you park overnight in a camper van at the trailhead to get an early start?

@te_wa
Thanks! I'm also considering the Eastern Superstitions Superloop as described in Tony Padegimas' Tonto NF guide. But the first day is about 16 miles, I believe.

3 day backpack from Miles Ranch - loop preferred

I'm planning to drive to Miles Ranch TH Sunday, then leave early Monday for a three day backpack. I don't need to drive back until Thursday, so a later arrival back at the TH on Wednesday is not a problem. I don't mind 10+ mile days. I see many possibilities on the map, but am looking for suggestions.

Re: Forest Road 172 & 172A to Rogers Trough TH

@1336dv I posted earlier about turning around at Mile 3.6 due to a drop off and some bouldery road. I was driving a 4WD Ford EB350 Sportsmobile van. My wheelbase was not the problem - my rig is 22 years old, I was alone, and it's a bit top-heavy and I just didn't feel comfortable trying it on my ow...
