Re: Apache Kid Cave

@chumley
The Apache Kid got around. Think he finally met his demise over in New Mexico.

@Mountain_Rat
:lol: I'm now at 13.32 inches for 2019, and I had 11.48 in 2018 and 11.08 in 2017. Nothing too far from what you would expect. That really was some good window rattling thunder in the night. I loved it! :)

Re: Mindless chit chat

@chumley It was a pretty amazing night down here. From midnight til around sunrise, there were about 4 distinct rain bands that came through, and each one featured lightning and thunder. And I am not talking the typical wintertime occasional in cloud flash with weak thunder either. There was pretty...

Re: Mindless chit chat

Total precipitation at my house for November was 2.32 inches. That ranks as 2nd wettest, exceeded by 2.47 inches in 2013. (start of record keeping at this location is June 1980)
For 2019, my total precipitation is presently 12.58 inches, so it has been a decent year overall. :)

@Mountain_Rat
As of right now, my total for November is 1.36 and for the year 11.62 inches, so not far from long term averages.

Re: Mindless weather chit chat

@chumley I think Jim's comment short circuited some folk's interest levels, and they went to a default "let's hike" mode. :lol: But he is right, it is all based on physics and there are computations for such wild readings. Trouble is, there are no instruments that can accurately measure such values...

@LindaAnn
That's what I have had on my Tacoma for years...and I love them too. :D The handling issue was relating to having them on the SUV, not the truck.

Re: Hiking vehicles

As a follow up on tires, I had a set of Michelin LTX M/S on the RAV for years. They had nearly 80,000 miles on them with good tread left when I replaced them a couple years back (they just got too old). That is a tire designed for light trucks and SUV's and I can honestly say they were awesome. Now ...

Re: Hiking vehicles

@DixieFlyer I have an older model RAV (2001 manual transmission) and I have beaten the holy living hell out of it over the years. I still use it, along with my 1998 4WD Tacoma for the tougher chores. Those earlier models (SUV) were under powered for many road situations (mostly due to the gearing),...

Re: Monsoon On The Way!!

OK...let's get this friggin monsoon 2019 going! This one was a classic building in on outflows from the east and south. (I hate distractions when I'm watching a good baseball game on TV, but I'm lucky things weren't vaporized with all the intense close cloud to ground lightning :o ) 0.62 inch rain, ...

Re: Mindless weather chit chat

I live in the part of Tucson that hit the rain jackpot with this most recent storm (roughly about a 5 mile radius from the airport, which had the highest amount 1.21). My two day total was .88 inch. That is the second most I have recorded in May, most was .98 inch back in 1992. I most enjoyed the li...

@Jim_H
No, I can't feel it. Sunsets have been getting later since December 10th, but more importantly, Sunrises won't start getting earlier until January 16th. So, I won't "feel it" (aka fired up) until March.

Pete Cowgill

One of the founders of the Southern Arizona Hiking Club and a hiking legend down here in Southern Arizona. I'm glad I got to hike with him occasionally over the years. https://tucson.com/news/local/pete-cowgill-founder-of-southern-arizona-hiking-club-honored-on/article_500541cc-fd12-5c9c-80d7-9787dd...
