Re: Woodbury Fire - Superstition Wilderness

This thing appears to be burning strong to the north. Peter's Canyon next, also Bluff Springs and Miner's Needle Loops to the West. Unless we get some rain, I see this fire reaching hwy 88 at Fish Creek.

Re: Camping below Fossil Creek bridge

@chumley Great info. Thank you. Going in with my kids to do Fossil Creek and Verde Hot Springs. We will be there right on the crossover of the summer/winter dates (Oct 1 - 2), so will just do the Verde Hot Springs first (camp at Childs dispersed camping area) then venture back out to Fossil Creek f...

Camping below Fossil Creek bridge

I know there is no camping above the bridge, but are there any known options between Bridge and Verde? Any rules, do's, don'ts?

Re: Name of Canyon North of Flatiron in the Supes?

@AZLumberjack
Yes. Great route to the top. If I were to name it, I would think it should be named after its most significant feature, being that tall thin spire. Maybe Finger Canyon

Re: It's time for Wilderness quotas

We all hear these PR ad campaigns to "Get Outside", "Get Moving", "Enjoy the Outdoors", "Visit your State Parks". Now, it's like whoa, whoa, whoa......too much.

Re: Mining Camp Parking

:M2C: I get the feeling that there is a lot of "Its Our Mountain"attitude among the neighbors who live here. It's not. The Superstition Mountain neighbors need to come down off their high horse and be a little more welcoming to the people who come to visit this great place. If you want to claim your...

Re: Mining Camp Parking

@Jim_H Honestly, maybe this is not the worst thing to happen. Traffic up Siphon has gotten ridiculous. Lately, when I want to do 5024, I find myself going up the reverse route, through Praying Hands and up the big drainage that is to the south. Of course, next thing you know, the enviro's will star...

Good Karma to at least put the opportunity out there for the owner to claim it. If no one comes forward, then I've got a new headlamp.

No sandy washes or problem areas noted until after Carney. It's the last mile that is the roughest.

Re: FS77 Or Peralta Road

Peralta is a little rough. Just got out there yesterday. Sandy wash crossings for sure. I had some fun in my Tahoe. 2-wheel drive handled it just fine. Rear end slid around a bit. I think its passable in just about any stock vehicle. Kind of depends on the driver. Poke along into the sand and you mi...

Re: Yosemite

Wow...Thank you John. I will use this information as my quick guide to Yosemite. I favor the east entrance and will spend a majority of time (3 hike days) over there (place booked in June Lake), then will make the one "long drive" to Yosemite Valley. Spend the last night at a different place and do ...

Re: Yosemite

@John9L
Im sure the place is crawling with people, but I get impression that maybe destinations from east entrance of Tioga Pass might be less of a cluster... than west side?. May stay near mono lake, june lake area.

Re: Yosemite

@John9L
Great question. Still working on that. Looking for a small vacation rental. I see many references to being a certain distance from the valley floor. Clouds Rest is definitely on my to do list. Other possibles, mt hoffman, mist trail, half dome (before the crowds).

Yosemite

Going to Yosemite from june 22 - 26. Looking for must-do activities/hikes in the area. Not a fan of crowds, so less travelled routes preferred. Half Dome popular, but would Clouds Rest be better? Rafting Tuolumne, climbing opportunities, canyon hikes, great photo destinations...what are your favs?

Re: Helicopter Crash in the Superststions

I wonder what they were doing out there. Were they looking for someone, and if so, what is the status of that person or persons? Hard to see people die who are in the business of keeping others alive.
