Sad to hear they couldn't last. I bought my Western Mountaineering bag (not braggin') from them over a decade ago, still use it to this day.

Re: SPOT or Garmin InReach??

As luck would have it, the InReach2 and Messenger are both $50 off at REI until 8/27. I read that InReach2 works with a phone in airplane mode while the Messenger does not. Guess that means I'm getting an InReach.

Re: SPOT or Garmin InReach??

That makes sense, I like having RouteScout available since the app displays all of the information efficiently. It beats carrying a conventional GPS plus the InReach

Re: SPOT or Garmin InReach??

Considering picking up an InReach soon. Sounds like the consensus is they work well enough and the SOS feature is the main selling point? The pricepoint/subscription costs are lame but it's much better than dying alone in the woods. I'm curious how the InReach tracks compare to RouteScout? It would ...

Re: Freeze dried food for hiking, love it or hate it?

I used to bring ingredients, pots, and a Coleman camp stove for burritos/pasta/etc. The Pocket Rocket/Mountain House combo is way simpler and takes up a fraction of space. They taste good enough to never go back unless it's a special occasion.

Someone has to appease the US’ taste for chemicals. Pretty silly of us to lump suppliers in with legitimate terrorists but I digress.

Usually I’d commiserate with an act of desperation but it’s signed everywhere to not leave the roads in the first place - it’s almost like there’s a reason why they warn you repeatedly [-(

Grant Creek Trail #305, AZ :: Question by PatrickL

Anyone have any "somewhat recent" insight on hiking this trail from Fort Grant to Cunningham CG? Reports from a couple years ago don't sound promising. Hoping someone has been up there in the last year and just neglected to post about it. Feel free to delete this thread - thanks!
