Thanks for the posting @hikerdw, I was reading about that just the other day, guess I might not be needing my Senior Pass anymore.

Re: Fires along Superstition Ridgeline
@chumley I hiked out of Needle Vista on Saturday, on the portion of the loop where I went past the horse trailer parking lot, I spotted two vehicles parked and a third driving down the road.... none of em was Forest Service. The barricades at the entrance to First Water Road were thrown around when...

Re: Fires along Superstition Ridgeline
It looks like the yellow/black tape that was originally strung across the entire thing has been broken The tape wasn't working very well because the FS was coming and going pretty regularly for awhile. A lot of people have been parking and hiking from here, tearing the tape and tossing the barricad...

Attached is a photo of First Water Road as of 09--18-20. No signs to indicate if the area is open or closed for hiking.

Re: Fires along Superstition Ridgeline
Recent Update.... I have been checking the status of the First Water Road on an almost daily basis but the "ROAD CLOSURE" sign and barricades are still in place. I decided to park my truck along the Apache Trail where the First Water Road takes off and walk the road to the Crosscut Trailhead. From t...

Re: Where were you??
I had just transferred into an in-house engineering position from a very heavy air travel position. I was sitting at my desk when a sales intern busted in announcing that an airplane had just hit the WTC tower. Shortly, several of us were gathered around a TV in the meeting room when the sales VP ca...

Re: Hanging Up The Spurs
I hear ya Spidey, next month I turn the big 80 and I've been slowing down quite a bit lately and this Quarantine ain't helping a bit. Just over two years ago I had both knees replaced and I was hoping that that was what I needed to rejuvenate my hiking but it hasn't been the secret I was hoping for....

Re: Fires along Superstition Ridgeline
State Route 88 to First Water Trailhead is closed. I've been checking the entrance to First Water Road on a daily basis, although the FS Security isn't present anymore, the roadblock is more permanent. It appears as though the barricade is intended to keep vehicles out and if you can find parking r...

Re: Fires along Superstition Ridgeline
Yesterday after lunch, I tried to get closer to the fire zone but Hwy 88 is blocked at the entrance to LDSP and manned by the Highway Patrol, so I drove up to the Ranger's office and explained that I only wanted to take some photos for the local newspapers and magazines, but that didn't work either....

Re: Fires along Superstition Ridgeline
Kept watching the smoke columns on the Ridgeline slowly but steadily moving West towards the Flatiron. I drove over to First Water Road and continued on to the Trailhead to get a couple of photos of the fire (mostly smoke) working up and down, what appears to be O'Grady and Old West Boulder Canyons....

Re: Fires along Superstition Ridgeline
My driveway offers me a view of the Ridgeline from the Flatiron to the 5057 summit. I have been on the lookout for telltale smoke columns and they showed up once again and they're moving to the West, towards the Flatiron. This morning, as I left for my morning walk, the smell of smoke was heavy in t...
