Re: Hackberry Spring

@GanoesParan
I've been on the loop many times throughout the years finding no water in the creek, but still has water in the spring itself. So the answer would be yes & no.

Re: Peralta Canyon Trailhead - Lost Dutchman Marathon

Trying to get out to the Museum or the Ghost Town on the Apache Trail can be frustrating at the Hitching Post as the runners have the right-of-way on Lost Dutchman Rd. so traffic can get backed up pretty bad.

Re: Camping spots at Indian Paint Mine?

@garyc57
I think the ground is pretty hard at the Paint Mine and the trail is adjacent to that area. Chums probably has the better choices for tents and access to water. Better check if campfires permitted.

Re: Knee Pain

Has anyone had knee replacement surgery? Would you do it again? Any tips as I consider this? Thanks Hi Shawn, it's been five years since I had both knees replaced (three months between surgeries). Prior to the replacements I had to begin preparations a day in advance of a planned hike. I applied &q...

Re: Boulder Canyon... water?

I just took a short hike down First Water Creek on Thursday to check on the condition of the burn and water levels in the creek. NOT impressive, see my report https://hikearizona.com/x.php?I=4&UID=51793 Boulder usually has deeper pools but I don't know about its quality following the burn and ch...

Re: SR 88 - Apache Trail

As of yet, AZDOT has NO plans in place to repair the road and bridge on Fish Creek Hill. The storm and fires over the past couple of years have cleared all the flora from the tops of the cliffs (what little there was to begin with) and AZDOT's waiting for the plants to grow to stabilize the rocks fr...

Re: 2021 Fire Restrictions

I drove past First Water Road yesterday (06-29-21) and found this barricade system to prevent access to the trailheads. Further down the Trail, the gravel pit access has tape, the Needle Vista has the gate closed & locked and the drivable washes have tape across the entrance. I didn't see any FS...

With the Globe/Miami area all but isolated from the Phoenix metro area, maybe this is a good time to complain to ADOT about ignoring the repairs on the Apache Trail.... just saying.

Re: Snake Gaiters -worth it?

@gummo A couple of years ago, I purchased a pair of Kevlar weed-gators to protect my ankles form the Foxweeds. They work great at keeping the seeds out of my sox and boot lining. They're only high enough to cover the tops of the boots so maybe you would prefer something a bit higher. Mine only cost...

Re: Fires along Superstition Ridgeline

@chumley I hiked out of Needle Vista on Saturday, on the portion of the loop where I went past the horse trailer parking lot, I spotted two vehicles parked and a third driving down the road.... none of em was Forest Service. The barricades at the entrance to First Water Road were thrown around when...

Took a drive out to Needle Vista and the lot is wide open with only one car in sight, driver sleeping.

Re: Fires along Superstition Ridgeline

It looks like the yellow/black tape that was originally strung across the entire thing has been broken The tape wasn't working very well because the FS was coming and going pretty regularly for awhile. A lot of people have been parking and hiking from here, tearing the tape and tossing the barricad...
