Re: $500 EpiPen
Yeah, I especially "appreciate" this since I have to keep one with me 24/7. Big Pharma is nothing more than a racket. I did a lot of research on drugs I was put on for a health issue, and then another to counter its side effects, then they wanted me on another for those........Fact is, I c...

Re: Girl accidentally kills gun instructor
@CannondaleKid I have not seen one with 3 round burst. All the ones I have actually seen were marked with 3 settings for safety, 1 round and full auto. The original design was intended for sustained fire. The selector switch is not easy to goof up either. It is even hard to get sometimes when you i...

Re: Girl accidentally kills gun instructor
@SAMBA Not so much in a private sector arena. I can not see it. With all the sensationalism about so-called "assault rifles" and such ( I am not going to even get started on that) and the dubbing of certain semi auto's as "assault", I am all for people owning weapons and the res...

Re: Girl accidentally kills gun instructor
Not if she worships at the feet of the NRA god, WAYNE LAPIERRE: "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun". Charles Vacca was obviously a "bad man". Not a fan of Wayne, but I would much rather "stop a bad guy with a gun" with my gun, and...

Re: Girl accidentally kills gun instructor
Age was almost totally the Issue in this one I think you missed my point. Size and physical characteristics of the person, yes.... age, no... Age may play a factor in who, what, when, where, and how it should be conducted, but age in itself was not the causing factor here. Yes, it is true that anyo...

Re: Girl accidentally kills gun instructor
The sad part of this is, this little girl is going to remember that for the rest of her life, and think she did something wrong! What could have been a safe (using a smaller, single shot gun) fun experience for her, became what will likely be very traumatic because of something the "expert"...

Re: Girl accidentally kills gun instructor
@neilends Age is not the issue. It is the gettem' in gettem' out style gun range. My children began learning much younger than that, however, not a freakin UZI!! Their response should be more toward having a safety class and test, dry fire practice, actual weapon handling skills taught, then and on...

Re: Girl accidentally kills gun instructor
@CannondaleKid Sometimes the ranges are the worst........ especially those that are non-supervised/controlled range areas....... That is why I teach my kids on my own property AWAY from careless idiots who have not won the Darwin Award, yet......... I instruct firearms, weapons handling, marksmansh...

Re: Speed hiking through nature
From the author's perspective, everything we do fast is bad, and is the root of all societal problems. While I can't completely discount some of her opinions, my response to her would be that the real problem is when somebody groups a bunch of unrelated stuff "all in one package" and deci...

Re: Speed hiking through nature
From the article: "But again, nothing environmentally horrible going on here. So no one is calling for speed limits on hiking wilderness trails. Rather, it’s to reflect on why we passed a law a half-century ago to set them aside." Those particular laws were set of so we could all have them...

Re: Grizzly Bears Coming Near You??
There's that saying about lies, damned lies, and statistics. I'm not calling anyone here a liar, of course, please don't misunderstand. But the statistics are not as relevant as bear behaviors. I don't think think the stats can be so easily discounted that way. ( Some statistical data tends to be s...

Re: Grizzly Bears Coming Near You??
Can you believe what you read on Wiki? Ha! Yeah, about as much as you can really trust a GPS in a car! We have a pretty good population of black bears in Georgia. Concentrated mostly in the Mountains in the northeast, but also quite abundant near my home close to the Okefenokee and Satilla River Ba...

Re: Grizzly Bears Coming Near You??
http://www.statisticbrain.com/bear-attack-statistics/ Just some statistics to ponder. From 2005-2012, both black and brown bears killed roughly the same number. The estimates of brown bears in the wild seems to be around 150,000 compared to estimates ranging from 630,000-750,000 of black bears. Just...

Re: Grizzly Bears Coming Near You??
Hmmm.... I am no fan of causing any animal or plant, to become threatened or endangered. On the other hand, I am not a fan of "re-introducing" them into an area that is known for a great amount of outdoor adventure after the people that inhabit and frequent the area are not accustomed to t...

A get bulletins on this kind of thing, and similar much more dangerous, quite often. It is much more common than people think on federal and state public lands! It used to be not so much on trails, just around places someone was trying to hide. It has been trending this way, trails, for quite some t...

Re: Google Launches "River View" Feature
Well, for some reason I can't awaken the old google trail thread, so I will post this here. Has anyone seen this "trailview" site? May be old news to everyone, but I thought it was pretty neat.
