Re: 5th Annual New Year's Day Topper!

I did this one a few years back. It's exposure city up top so be careful. Are you going up the east face or the west face? I bushwhacked my way up the west face and practically gently strolled down the east slope in comparison. It's a fun one though...

Re: 4th Annual New Year's Day Peak Celebration

I'm interested, but may be too slow of a hiker for this group. I also don't have a high clearance vehicle. I'm a maybe...

Re: Parking & Access between Mining Camp and Broadway TH's

Don't know if this helps, but... When I did Spirit Canyon earlier this year I parked at the water tanks at the end of Superstition Blvd. There was plenty of room just off the road on the gravel and no visible "No Parking" signs. Does that mean it's okay to park there? Who knows? I do know that as yo...

Re: What do you do for a living??

@Jim_H I pull four 10s right now and it's a sweet deal IMO. At least it was before I took on more hours at my part time gig. I work behind-the-scenes in television full time and then work weekends as an on-air personality (DJ) at a radio station, about 55 hours a week total. I took up hiking as a h...

Re: I give up.

But, if you have not been to Kayenta, or tried to live there, you may want to hold your comments. It's a message board. If the OP didn't want comments he wouldn't have posted here. How do I put this politely? Sometimes members of this site come across as so negative and opinionated that it truly ma...

Re: I give up.

Jim, I'm hoping that by sharing a little of my story you might find something useful. Several years ago I moved to the midwest for my first radio job. I had never been to that part of the country before and I moved on a week's notice to follow my "career". The first year almost defeated me. The lone...

Re: 12,633 Feet? Let's Do It!

I've been itching to do Humphrey's this summer and I'm off Mondays. Plus, the idea of doing it with fellow slow hikers and meeting other HAZers is definitely appealing. Consider me interested. keep me posted.

2011 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 5K Walk

I'm not sure how the site administrators feel about allowing charity events to be posted on the forum. I don't see any others, but I'm hoping since this is for such a good cause they'll let it slide. Besides, it's better to ask for forgiveness than beg for permission. Anyway, I'm organizing a team f...

Re: Wolverines in AZ???

Consider yourself spared... I'll chalk this up as a case of mistaken indentity and present my findings to my co-worker tonight. Thanks to everyone who provided intelligent insight into this Wolverine caper.

Re: Wolverines in AZ???

My personal bet however is the coati. http://www.hikearizona.com/dexcoder.php?dex=2&PID=87 I initially thought coati too, which is why I showed him the pictures. I figured they have that exotic look that would confuse someone who didn't know what they were and having them saying, "Are those weasels...

Re: Wolverines in AZ???

Yeah, those kind of wolverines. I know it seems far-fetched, but I was racking my brain at work all last night to think of what else it may have been that he would've seen.

Wolverines in AZ???

I have a co-worker who fishes frequently at Buthcer Jones at Saguaro Lake. He likes to go at night after he gets off work. Last night he saw me looking at some HAZ pics of the recent mountain lion sighting on Peralta Trail and we got to talking about strange encounters with wildlife. He says that on...

Re: Tucson Day Hike suggestions?

Thank you guys for all your suggestions. I see I have some research to do. I'm liking what I read about Pima Canyon. Plus, it's a pretty good excuse for me to avoid the I-10 and take "the back way" to Tucson, but I'll definitely research all the hikes you mentioned.

Tucson Day Hike suggestions?

I'm new to the site so I could use some suggestions... I'm gonna be in Tucson for an evening event in a couple of weeks. Since I have the day off I figured I'll go down early and maybe take in a hike first. I'm wondering if anyone can suggest a trail that fits these parameters: roughly five miles ro...
