Re: What belongs on a peak or overlook?

Xmas stuff is okay for city summits that kids can do. I kind of disagree with this. Not to be "the grinch" or anything, but not everybody wants to see litter on the summits, no matter how "festive" it is... And not everybody celebrates the same festivities. "Leave no trace", no matter how small the...

Re: What belongs on a peak or overlook?

A summit register is a way to share your experience with others and see who else was there and when. Xmas stuff is okay for city summits that kids can do. I probably depends on the summit on what's acceptable. The mailbox on Picketpost was an attraction (kind of like the shoe tree), but a mailbox on...

Re: National Monuments Undone??

1. Copper, uranium, and other metals don't fall from the sky, so we have to mine for them. We need them to maintain our 1st world comforts. 2. Because no one is willing to pay more for metal to help compensate for the clean up costs, mining companies will do the bare minimum to extract metals. A pol...

Turn Into a gossip/bitch session People don't see their own negativity and insecurities, but they feel them, kind of like a parasite. Our society teaches us that being you isn't good enough, so carry a lot of shame around with us (the parasite). We strive to feel better about ourselves by buying ma...

Outdoor ethics tip:
If you are in a group that is stranded in the wilderness with no food, it's okay to turn to cannibalism to survive, but you must wait for the others to die before eating them.

Society: "When you're not willing to risk the unusual, then you have to settle for the ordinary. " Also Society: "Why did you do that? You need to be more careful. That was stupid...." I would rather see people hike with the toddlers/children then to have them indoors staring at a screen in a "safe"...

Re: Hikers left 'uncomfortable' after encountering man jogging in pink thong

I've seen nuke hikers at least 4 times. I didn't think much of it. I care more about what I'm doing than what others do, as long as it doesn't affect me personally. Modern 1st world societies make people more alone and isolated. When people don't have a connection with others, they don't feel comfor...

Re: Hydration - Water isn't the best

Junk science is creating distrust in experts and real scientific data. That's why we have a nation of self-righteous people who are proud to be ignorant and see ignoring facts as a source of power. That's why we have a growing # of people who think the earth is flat, the moon landing wasn't real, an...

Re: Where to park and ride in Apache Trail

@sajor75
Park on Tomahawk Rd, Hackmore Rd, or on or near the road leading to First Water Trail (best option). I think you can park at Goldfield Ghost town. A better road to ride is Bush Hwy (Power Rd north of Thomas Rd).

Re: The Kilimanjaro Escalade project?

Africa was so awesome. You guys would probably go there just to drink the banana beer, but the hiking, the landscape, the people (minus those pesky kidnappers), and the wildlife was amazing.

I know 2018 isn't over yet, but here's my update on my 2018 Hazolutions so far. 2018 Hazolutions: 1. @Jim_H - Cracker Lake for privacy, elevation, and moose sightings. - Grinnell Glacier for goats, sheep, grizzly bears, and possibly wolverine sightings. It's the best hike there. - Iceberg Lake for moose and grizzly bear sightings. - Huckleberry Mtn for an easy elevation hike and nearly a guarantee...
