You all hear about this one yet?
Even though it occurred in Colorado, I think we can file it under "Texas".

Here's my favorite part - "These hikers said they did not understand why it was so cold and rainy in Colorado, because it has been ‘so hot in Texas’ where they hike all the time,” rescuers said. “They never checked any weather forecasts.”

That sounded like me when my friend and I hiked the Garden Wall in Glacier National Park. We went off thinking that the day would become warmer, but it rained and got much colder and windy. We had on cotton clothes and dressed for the summer. We were so cold and itchy when we returned. Unlike them, we didn't need to be rescued and could not check the weather prior to our hike because there was no internet access then.

We studied the sky as I recall and watched the weather accordingly or payed the price for misjudging it!

I don't know what anybody else did, but I took a basic mountaineering course in 1976, 4 years after I had started backpacking. They stressed the 10 essentials. I went by that info for years, plus looked at the weather forecast in the newspaper. I read books, such as The Complete Walker, by Colin Fletcher.

That happened to me once in the 80's. Misjudged the clouds on Mt. Lemmon while rock climbing near Windy Point. Clouds rolled in from a different direction, leaving us stranded in a side canyon while a huge thunderstorm rolled in. Scariest 45 minutes of my life to date.

Mike Judge was just interviewed on Joe Rogan's podcast. Only thing he wished he could have captured in Idiocracy is social media. Questioning this reproduction mountain you seem to be climbing in your last statement. It may be hard, but hardly an issue of resiliency.

Lake Como Rd was exceptionally dangerous this trip due to heavy rain, high chance for rockfall and extremely slippery rock,

Wait, what? Rockfall? I think that's definitely a big risk if you go past Lake Como up the Blanca Peak trail, but on the road?

Back when we used to go up to the San Juans when I was young, the locals had all kinds of stories about Texans doing dumb things, but mostly they involved people driving pickup trucks off road.
