End of the World
I've had a friend ask about car camping at the End of the World above Sedona. I've not been there but these coordinates look like the right location. Can anyone confirm this is the right place? Or maybe is there a better spot nearby? We will be rendezvousing with several other cars up there. 34°58'3...

Re: Supes this weekend in a storm
Hi, We decided to cancel the trip due to the flash flood warnings. I was curious about conditions and hiked from the First Water trailhead to Boulder Creek this morning (Monday). Boulder Creek was flowing vigorously. I didn't see a way to get across that wouldn't have involved fast moving water that...

Supes this weekend in a storm
Greetings, I'm taking a small group of scouts to the Supes this weekend for a slow backpacking trip from Canyon lake to Peralta via Boulder Canyon, Calvary and Dutchmans. We plan to camp in Boulder Canyon on Saturday night and Labarge on Sunday, exiting on Monday morning. I'm looking at the NOAA for...

Re: Cabin Loop Alternate
if they don't like that one (they're smart, it's a hard loop) then just park at the 260 trailhead and leave your shuttle at tonto hatchery. camp at see canyon and then take the derrick trail back to your car. Thanks for the suggestion. This plan seems like a winner to the scouts. One question: is w...

Re: Cabin Loop Alternate
@te_wa (or anyone else!) What about Pine Canyon #26? Are there places to camp along that trail? I'be not hiked out of that trailhead. I showed the Pine Canyon/Geronimo Loop to our youth and they were not enthusiastic about the mileage however they liked the idea of hiking up the trail as a shuttle ...

Re: Cabin Loop Alternate
shuttle via 142 & 142B: Clover creek to WCC, then out Calloway. blows the doors off the cabin loop. all day long, son. that being said, i hope these are experienced scouts. Thank you for the suggestion. That looks like a fun and beautiful hike but none of us have experience in canyons and I'm a...

Re: Cabin Loop Alternate
It looks like they will close the Houston Brother's Trail.

Any thoughts on my original question? I'd like to have a plan for an alternate trip ready to go.

Re: Cabin Loop Alternate
I like your positive attitude. I don't want to change the plan and I know some of the boys are looking forward to completing the whole trail system.

Cabin Loop Alternate
Our BSA troop had a great time on the western side of the Cabin Loop a few weeks ago and we are set to complete the east half of it in a couple weeks but the Pinchot Fire http://inciweb.nwcg.go... looks like it may interrupt that plan. I've been searching around for a comparable route here using the...

Cabin Loop Water Q
Hi, I'm planning on taking some scouts backpacking on the western half of the Cabin Loop from the Barbershop Trailhead on FR139 to to the Pinchot trailhead via Houston Brothers Trail southbound to General Crook Trail to Fred Haught Trail in early September. I'm familiar with the eastern half of the ...

Re: Supai to Colorado footwear Q
Thank you for the detailed information. I'm intimidated by the amount of water but I do have Tevas, wool socks and lots of Luekotape and Tincture of Benzoin so I can deal with abrasion as it happens.

Supai to Colorado footwear Q
Hello, I'll be visiting Havasupai in a couple weeks and I'm thinking of doing the hike from the campground to the Colorado River on one of the days while we are down there. I'm ok with getting my feet wet in my meshy trail runners and merino socks but I'm concerned by the number of water crossings t...

Two nights in December
Any recommendations for a two night hike in late December? I'm thinking something around 15-25 miles. I do not have a high clearance vehicle... My thought is somewhere in the western Supes from the Canyon Lake trailhead but I'm concerned that Boulder Creek will be dry and our first water (lol) would...

Second Water Q
I'm headed out to the Superstitions next weekend with some scouts. I've been told that Second Water Spring is a reliable source of water by someone I know and trust but the spring report here shows just a drip last in the most recent report (last November). Is Second water a reliable source of water?

Spray Paint in Dreamy Draw
I was dismayed this morning to find spray painted marks on rocks, signposts and on the ground while hiking on Trail 220 and Trail 100 this morning. The marks start just east of the ramadas and seem to mark out a path with arrows and even 24" tall mileage on the ground. It almost looked like som...
