Fly Fishing Oak Creek

Headed to Sedona this weekend for some fly fishing. The plan is to start at Grasshopper point and fish upstream. I've not actually started at the West Fork. Does anyone have experience fishing this far upstream or can recommend some good spots? Thanks!

Re: Paria Canyon Advice

Thanks for the tips! Paria Canyon was more than I could've imagined. We did 38 miles from Whitehouse to Lee's Ferry and can't wait to return. I wrote about the experience on my blog and added a few useful nuggets!

Re: Overnight Cabin Loop Advice

Thanks, Chum! I had tried to follow the Fred Haught Trail right before the roads opened and the trail just disappeared on me. I ended up heading back to General Springs for the night. With that said, between Fred Haught and Houston Bros which is more scenic and private? Thanks for the heads up on th...

Overnight Cabin Loop Advice

I am looking for approximately a 6-8 mile one-way overnight trip this weekend. I was looking at the Cabin loop and trying to decide if I should hike up Houston Bros from FR300 and camp at Aspen Springs Cabin, or Due the U-Bar from Pinchot and camp at Buck Springs Cabin. I will be with my dog, so any...

Re: Colonel Devin Trail Camping Recommendation

Roads are closed which is why I chose the Colonel Devin Trail. I initially was going to continue on the cabin loop, but really only have 1 night to spend there. I thought about camping at General Springs Cabin or Fred Haught Cabin, any recommendations? I may also decide to do Horton Springs, but hav...

Colonel Devin Trail Camping Recommendation

Hi All, I am doing an overnighter this week and plan on hiking the Colonel Devin Trail. Is this trail ok for a dog including a trip to the railroad cave? Also, any recommendations on where to camp? I thought about staying at General Springs area, but wanted to know if there was a better recommendati...

Re: Cabin Loop 3/24-3/26 LF Backpacking Partner(s)

I know Lake Knoll well, in fact its the only lake on the rim you can legally camp on. I typically kayak to the back fingers and setup camp. It's a good suggestion, thank you! Is there anything worse than when someone backs out on a trip your excited about? Ha.

Re: Cabin Loop 3/24-3/26 LF Backpacking Partner(s)

Thanks Chumley & Grasshopper! I read April as being 'open' so I figured I may have to start below the rim and work my way up. If I am unable to find a partner to pack with, I will probably just pack into horton springs and stay there for a solo trip.

Cabin Loop 3/24-3/26 LF Backpacking Partner(s)

I've always wanted to backpack the entire cabin loop trail and visit the historic forestry cabins. Unfortunately, my backpacking partner has backed out. If you aren't familiar with the 21 mile loop, it includes Fred Haught Trail, U-Bar, Barbershop and Houston Brothers trail. The loop is located near...
