Re: Parking for 4 weeks in Superior

Off of the Florence-Kelvin Highway about a mile before the Kelvin-Riverside Bridge is a trailer park on the right hand side of the road. I forget the name but it sits behind an old white house. They watched my vehicle and are pretty user friendly and enjoy talking and helping out hikers. They will a...

Re: AZT Gear?

MY two cents but I always hang food and I would use a foam pad. Can be a pretty hard rocky ground if you get a hole you can't fix. You do go through quite a bit of bear country and I had a skunk try to steal my food bag on one of the few nights I didn't hang.

Re: Water on the AZT in the Fall

I did a thru hike of the AZT last fall (Sept). Water was pretty good for the whole length of the trail. Might be nasty looking pond scum you have to kick a cow out of but it was water.

Re: Favorite Water Treatment?

I've tried them all and by far my favorite is the MSR Sweetwater. Works well easy to clean, no extra bottles to carry for dirty water and also helps with the taste from some of those nasty cattle tanks. I've used Sawyer and Sawyer mini, the Platypus gravity and many others. However very expensive I w...

Re: Advice on Smart Phone/Carrier

Verizon service and Droid Turbo phone was what I used for my thru hike last year. Had service most of the time. My brother had AT&T and rarely had service. I used this solar charger (http://suntactics.com/shop/scharger-5-portable-usb-solar-charger/) after trying many different options in Southern Ca...
