I have heard conflicting reports about how good resupplying at Mormon lake is. Some say it is not adequate, others says it is.
Should I mail a resupply box or resupply there?
What is your take on this?
I am starting my hike on March 23, going northbound.

Re: Wood Burning Stove
Thank you. Good know about Saguaro.
I have a Ti Tri stove by Trail Designs, which can use alcohol, wood, solid fuel tablets or gel packs.
I can certainly try it at the start of the hike, and switch to alcohol if need be.
I don't think soot will be a major issue, but we shall see.

What is your opinion on using a wood burning stove for an AZT thru-hike? There are only two places, as far as I know, where it is not allowed, Saguaro National Park and Grand Canyon National Park. Wood should be readily available for the entire length of the trail. It certainly would save on carryin...

About 1 mile west of Montezuma pass on Montezuma Canyon Road there is a dirt road that goes down to the border, and another road that follows the border to within 2000 feet west of the trail head. See the image below. Is there any reason why you would not access the southern terminus this way? I rea...

Re: Resupply north of Grand Canyon
@LuckyMan You can send a package to the post office at the north rim, 85 N Main Street, North Rim 86052 (928) 643-7122 M-F 8:00-12:00; 1:00-5:00. That's 65 miles from the finish. According to the data book, there is a resupply box at 765.8 and at 774.3, but you would have to have someone drop the p...

@keepa How many charges does it give your samsung after fully charged? How long does it take to charge (in sun and while plugged in)? It charges my Samsung S5 once from a full charge. The solar charger takes 6-8 hours to recharge if it is always facing the sun. For south to north hikers this would ...

Planning a thru hike in March of 2017, has anyone used the AZT APP downloaded on their phone for navigational purposes? How does it work when there isn't phone service? Was it worth using? Thanks! You don't need phone service, all the data is on your phone. You only need GPS. I have it, it's pretty...

I use a Powerfilm LightSaver, it weighs 5 ounces and charges my Samsung Galaxy S5, camera batteries with no problem. It recharges its lithium ion battery in about 6-8 hours of sunlight.jc2014 wrote:Can someone recommend a good solar charger for a NOBO 2017 hike?

Re: Southern Terminus Access
I have been curious about this myself. I kinda like the idea of not having to walk south to then turn around and walk north. On sat photos (bing might be a little clearer) you can see the road along the fence gets to within 0.4 miles of the terminus, with about a 400 foot climb. The road is dirt of...

Looking at Google Maps and Google Earth, I see an unnamed road about one mile to the west of Montezuma Pass, it starts at Eighty Spring, right on W. Montezuma Canyon Road, and goes south to Yaqui Canyon and the border. http://www.ninevehsoft.com/hikes/aztsta.jpg That leaves you one mile directly wes...

Re: Spring 2017 Thru Hikers
Hi everyone. I plan to thru hike NOBO starting 3/29/17. See you on the trail. ultranomad, I am considering a northbound through-hike starting on April 1 (no joke!), but I don't want to do it alone. I am looking for a hiking buddy. Are you interested? I can start on 3/29, my schedule is flexible. Is...
