Yes, I've been watching the forecast closely on Ventusky. It looks grim for Oct 10-13, and continues unstable through midweek. I don't want any mud disasters. I'm going to postpone either to Oct. 16-19 or 17 -20.

The plan is to drive up Friday, hike in Saturday and out Sunday, then drive home Monday. High clearance 4x4 recommended. I’m happy to share seats in my Cherokee. Carp...

Re: Topock Gorge Kayak and Havasu Wilderness Walk 4/28/25

@azbackpackr I have read all of your posts about this area and found them valuable as I was proposing this trip! Thank you for all of the insight. I hope I get a taker or two on this. As you say about the wind, it can be a problem. I planned to do this one a couple years ago, and had to defer becau...

My plan is to drive up to Lake Havasu Sunday afternoon, April 27, stay overnight in a cheap motel, and then Monday morning link up with Western Arizona Canoe and Kayak Outfitters (AZWacko) for...

BLM Middle Gila South Planning Project

While researching a future backcountry trip, I had a great conversation with Francisco Mendoza, Outdoor Recreation Planner at the BLM Tucson office. He informed me that there is a public comment period going on until November 17, 2022 on a Travel Management Plan in the Middle Gila South, Picacho, an...

Re: Battle Axe Road to White Canyon

@SJFL I just posted a https://hikearizona.com/x.php?x=184866 on White Mountain Wilderness - GET #3. I walked a section of the road you plan to drive. It would easily be passible with a high clearance 4WD. There were quite a few vehicles on it. I think it will be doable with your Forester. There is ...
