Re: Favorite Approach Shoe?

I actually am a fan of Sportiva Tx3 and Tx4 and use them for a variety of applications(off trail scrambling, canyoneering, caving, moderate backcountry climbs). The biggest reason I like them is the fact they're comfy(on me) on long mileage treks. Following because I don't like how long they last pe...

Re: Favorite Approach Shoe?

I have friends who put in a lot of off-trail Grand Canyon miles(including class 4 scrambles) in cheap New Balance trail runners. Just sayin'

Weird, they took the closure signs down at the Finger Rock th so i thought it was open. Plus there were quite a few people hiking to Kimball the day I did it.

Re: GPS Watch or Lightweight Handheld Recommendations

I second the smartphone recommendations. I bought a Garmin GPSMap 66i a couple years ago because I wanted sat communications and good GPS functionality. I do a lot of canyoneering and wanted something that would hold up. I probably end up bringing just my smartphone more often than the Garmin. The s...

@SpiderLegs
I like to wear a mask when driving up to Phoenix to try and obscure the Phoenix stench.

I was close to Hollin basin a couple weeks back on the may to Airmen via the West Fork of Molino. From what I saw from up top it didn't look burned.

I don't really get the point of this. If you're doing something in the backcountry, carry enough water or research potential water sources.

Unkar

I'm wondering about water in Unkar this weekend. There's supposed to be water in a side arm of Unkar that comes off of Jupiter temple per Harvey's logs. I'm inclined to not trust water sources this year.

Re: Critical Theory, Critical Race Theory?

Especially now, I use hiking and adventuring as an escape from the real world. The people I go with generally don't talk about politics, state of the world, etc.
I will now ignore this topic :) Anyone want to talk about the Grand Canyon?

@chumley I need people to "like" my comments, triplogs, and photosets. You claim you hike for noble reasons, but we can see through your charade. We know "It's all about the Babes". It's so obvious the babes go gaga over guys in hiking boots, trekking poles, hydration bladders, ...

We did participate in the pilot program for our night at Hance Rapids. The NPS sent us both WAG bags and Restop2s along with a link for a questionairre to fill out. Luckily, we were going out New Hance....carrying them for a few more days would not have been the greatest. We did meet a rafting party...

A Tucson friend was telling me it is too hot up on Mt. Lemmon since the fire because there is less shade, but she doesn't hike much, so I am not sure whether to listen to her or not. I used to backpack to W. of Rocks in summer, and camp by the last crossing there at Lemmon Creek. I don't remember i...
