I haven't been on it in a couple years, but I commented on how there was a surprising amount of compact rental cars on it. I'm not sure how they were getting past a certain spot. It might be a different story if it was really wet.

Your Tacoma should do okay, it's just *really* bumpy.

I did it in a 2wd Pathfinder. Like Paul said, it's bumpy. Take it slow and you'll be fine. It's one of those roads you need to do at least once. Best is from I-17 to Sedona for the views coming in. There are a lot of nice hikes off that Road :)

I've driven a Ford Escort up there. But as others have said, you need to go slow and be ready for an endless barrage of jarring bumps.

I'm convinced the FS goes out of their way to make the road as bad as possible in support of the Jeep Tour concessionaires from which the FS makes money. :M2C:

@chumley
Funny you mention that, Jim was literally just up there, he drove bike up with his daughter, opted for Jeep rental, but they were very happy they went that route..I guess he said not a road for Harleys..lol..but he said in a pinch he could have done, but it would have been slowwww going....

I did it in a 95 Corolla once..carefully..no problems (I enjoyed the looks on the faces on the Pink Jeep Tour folks). Truck will be fine. Downhill for sure for views.

If you are planning on driving schnebly road in anything that's not high clearance... Use the most current report you can get as condition may change with every rainfall. Only takes one real rough spot to make you turn around or go when you should not have.

Last year somebody towed a small popup camper (think it was a Coleman Taos) up the road.

I just drove to Waldron trailhead (Grand Canyon South Rim) a couple days ago in my Honda Accord. It's supposedly 4WD. However, if there were rain in the forecast wouldn't want to risk it.
