Fireworks from Flatiron

Post by jlheaney »

I'm curious to know if any of you have hiked, camped on Flariron on the 4th of July to see fireworks all over the valley. Is it worth it?

I've never done it but I think you would have better luck on one of the more central peaks (Piestewa, Camelback, SoMo, even Papago or Tempe Butte -- except those two get crazy crowded.)

I just think that from flatiron, the fireworks you will see will be very far away (Does AJ even have fireworks ... that you can't buy at Frys?). In Tempe, I can hang out on my roof and see Tempe, Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler, something on the Rez south of Chandler, and I think Scottsdale, or something on the Rez east of the 101. But some of those are pretty far away and hardly worth the effort.
I'm not sure what my spirit animal is, but I'm confident it has rabies.

Yea, it was quite neat. We didn't go all the way to Flatiron we stopped before heading into the mountain. It probably would've been better viewing closer to the city but we still were able to see the shows in Queen Creek, Mesa, Gilbert, and Phoenix all at the same time. The solitude was awesome; except for someone in the houses below shining a green laser at us every single time my son turned on his headlamp. I did notice a headlamp up on top of Flatiron that night so someone did catch the fireworks from up there. :D
