Forest Service law enforcement searching for individual(s) who placed rebar in roads
Release Date: Jul 15, 2014
Contact(s): Forest Service Law Enforcement: 928-527-3511

Image of spiked rebarFlagstaff, Ariz. – Forest Service law enforcement is asking the public for any information related to sharpened rebar that was purposely placed on and near forest roads in the Happy Jack area.
At least five pieces of these spiked rebar placed on a forest road were responsible for slashing at least eight tires over the weekend. It appears the rebar is being placed in areas frequented by OHV’s.
“The end of the rebar has been flattened and sharpened to a point and the exposed point has been painted to blend in with the road surface,” said Mogollon Rim District Ranger Linda Wadleigh. “The objects pose a serious threat to everyone, and that doesn’t just mean people recreating on a motorcycle or OHV, it includes people walking, hiking and even wildlife. We are taking this very seriously and asking the public to keep an eye out and report suspicious activity in the area.”
Anyone with information regarding who may be placing these dangerous rebar should contact Forest Service law enforcement at 928-527-3511.

First off I don't agree with sabotaging trails AT ALL! I also DESPISE ATVs being where they're not suppose to be!

The news report on AZ central has my blood boiling :x I get that a spike place by a vigilantly is unsafe but that spike didn't put that woman's children's safety in jeopardy, SHE DID!! By take her children in an ATV where it's not suppose to be. Spike or not, she shouldn't have been there! :M2C:

I'm just gonna go ahead and say it-- spiking trails where motorized vehicles are not supposed to be is aggressive, extreme, and I would never take part in it... but, I don't feel bad for anyone that gets their tires wrecked.

The entrance road to Rock Crossing Campground has a piece of sharp pipe sticking out of the ground a couple of inches right in the middle of the road. Advised Coconino National Forest about it again. Also observed a mid-sized quad going down the road with the driver wearing a harness with a infant in the front.

Well, at least the rider was wearing his protective gear.

Not to hijack the thread here but on a related (as is totally stupid) I saw a fellow throwing a ball for his dog on Lake Mary Road today. Actually put it one of those throwing sticks and launched it down the shoulder, and the dog went to fetch.

Just a heads up to everyone ;) I have had at least 3 4X4 patrol Tahoe come into my shop with damage to the tire while driving on dirt roads( police officers words, which means "no bushes or trees in front of the vehicle")
From the look of the damage to the tire, someone is putting fence posts in the dirt roadways(trails) around Cave Creek/ Phoenix area. Now .... none of the officers involved can tell me exactly where they were when the tire was damaged  but I have NO DOUBT that the hole in the tire was caused by a "T" fence post. Because there was no damage to the rim tells me that the post is most likely 2-3 inches out of the ground(any longer and the post would have scratched the inside of the rim, which did not occur)
I have asked all the officers driving 4X4 to look out for anything that looks out of the ordinary and if they do have another flat to mark exactly where they are and to walk back over where they just drove to look for something placed in the tracks that they're tire had traveled in.
I will keep you all updated :D

Again, this is just a "HEADS UP!" and if anyone finds anything in this area PLEASE PM me, I'm tired of having to change tires because of damage and not ware ;)
