Cell Phones and Plans

Post by sherileeaz »

I'm needing to switch phones and service now that I'm in Arizona. Anyone wanting to tell me about how great your cell phone plan is, is appreciated. I'm curious if anyone gets reception in the canyons? I was told 2 way walkie talkies only work there. Right now I have Sprint with 250 anytime, 1250 night/weekends, but this plan is from 2 years ago, I know there are more out there now and cheaper. Also a good place to get a plan? Was told Costco's, any other places? Which plan do you absolutely hate?

Thanks,

Cricket phone

Unless you need roaming, I like the Cricket plan. I use it instead of a home phone. You get unlimited local calls, 500 min free long distance and most features (call waiting, caller id) for 39.95 per month.

I did hear an advertisement for T-moble offering a comperable package with roaming for about the same price.

I have sprint myself. I have been with them for over 5 years now. As far as coverage, they are the best in the business. A lot of the other companies, piggyback off their digital/analog zones. Currently, my plan is 500 anytime, 1500 nights/weekends, and free longdistance for 45.00 a month. The plans constantly change....so you just have to ask what their best deal is at the present time depending on how many mins you need.
Yet, another perk to Sprint.....If i am out-of-state....any calls i make say for example...when i went to WA a few weeks ago....all my local calls werent considered to be long distance since i was in the WA digital network. (i hope that made sense)
I have a few friends that have Cricket...and they constantly drop calls which i find annoying.
So, if you say you already have Sprint....then call their 800# and ask for their current plans and prices. They might hook you up! Especially, if you mention that you might cancel your account with them....
Hope this helps.

Although I now have Verizon, I had Sprint for 4+ years and I agree with Elaine. Sprint is probably thr best in the business. Verizon claims to have the largest network, but it's my understanding that they piggyback/lease much of Sprint's network space (I think there's a telcomm expert on this list who could clarify).

Cricket sounds good, but looking at their map, you couldn't even go to Flagstaff or Tuscon without it being a $0.08/minute call. I'd rather pay $10/month more for national long distance and roaming.

Elaine also brought up a good point about retention. Call Sprint and tell them you are planning on changing and/or ask for retention. They will offer you some exceptional deals. I was offered 400/unlimited for $19 back in Sep when I first cancelled. I also received numerous offers in the mail for a few months afterwards.
