65 year old woman dies on Peralta yesterday.
California couple (71-year old husband) were experienced hikers and had been hiking 10 hours yesterday when wife collapsed.
That's a long time to be out in the kind of temperatures we are experiencing, even for experienced hot weather hikers.

I'm not sure what my spirit animal is, but I'm confident it has rabies.

Re: 65 year old woman dies on Peralta
Oh, that's sad. I was at Lake Mohave yesterday. On the lake in my kayak it didn't seem as hot, and every so often I stopped at a beach and swam. I wore a long sleeved shirt, a huge ventilated hat, drank water and ate salty peanuts. Putting my boat back on the car was the worst part but before I was finished I went to the water and dunked myself again, got my clothes wet. I can't even imagine thinking about going for a hike in that kind of heat. When I left my motel in Bullhead yesterday morning to head for the lake at 6:15 a.m. it was hot. It had never cooled off overnight.

I'm betting that they didn't intend to be out for 10 hours - probably the hike took much longer than they expected, or they got lost. They almost made it out ... so sad.
I once rescued a couple out in the Supes under similar circumstances and led them back to their trailhead, otherwise their outcome might have been similar.
