so i'm from canada wanting to go hiking somewhere in the southwest in jan. i have about 2 weeks and if anyone has any suggestions that would be great.
i'm looking at mojave and joshua tree, but am open to other suggestions. i think i'll be busing it (proabably fly into pheonix), but may rent a car depending on cost.
i've been warned about the weather/temperature/possible snow/impending rain.
so far its just for me so i may possibly be looking for a few people to join me.
any advice or suggestions?

Re: multiday backpacking trip in jan...
Ground fires are allowed only in the eastern (higher) portion of the Mazatzal backcountry, not in the western (lower) portion, but I can't recall what the boundary line is. I think it is the Divide trail; help me out here, folks.
;) ;)

Re: backpack in jan
Joshua Tree NP is most sandy, windy, and flat. Joshua Tree isn't really meant for backpacking. It's a park meant for rock climbing, day hikes, new-age mediation, landscape photography, and star-gazing. Plus, there's no water or campfires allowed. You're better off going to the Superstition Mountains or Grand Canyon and hitting Joshua Tree in the spring. You see all of Joshua Tree in a 2 days.DeAnnA! wrote:
any idea about the mojave and joshua tree?
as well fire wood...i know you have to buy or haul it in. do most campgrounds sell fire wood...or what is the general protocol?
I'm not familiar with mojave, but for the most part: Sonoran Desert > Mojave Desert.

@gummo
These postings are really funny because from her original post I think she was looking to do this in January 2007

I'm gonna start a new thing for HAZertainment. Every week I'm gonna reply to a thread from 10 years ago. There are some great threads when you spin up the way back machine. It's especially fun to ask "I wonder what happened to user XYZ"?

I'm not sure what my spirit animal is, but I'm confident it has rabies.

I wonder quite often about users past. (FWIW, I totally comply with all fire regulations).chumley wrote:It's especially fun to ask "I wonder what happened to user XYZ"?
