Drones in the Wilderness

I recently found a high quality drone video on youtube flying around the Dacite Cliffs by the Don's Camp. This is a 15 minute video so grab a cold one, sit back and enjoy the ride.

I'm not sure what the regulations are for flying drones in the Superstition Wilderness, but I heard that they don't look favorably on them and a permit would almost be assured. I would check with the Mesa Ranger District for a clarification if anyone is thinking about using one in the Superstitions.

Are you within 1/4 mile of an occupied building? No.
Are you within 1/4 mile of a water source? No.
Are you within 1/4 mile of a vehicle? No.
Are you within 1/4 mile of another person? No.

So, in review. No.

I wondered how long it would be before David got a Drone...He's really found a nice Niche in these Flash Flood Films...Most Stormchasers just do Clouds and Lightning. David chases the Potential for Flash Floods and Succeeds quite a bit these Days....

The article quite emphatically made the case for prior intent. They're already serving life sentences anyway, so the threat of incarceration adds no further deterrent.

Just found a Youtube video of a drone flying over the Western approach to Superstition Mountain, Canyon Lake and the Eastern ranges of the Superstitions. This is So Fantastic. However, I heard that the Forest Service has banned Drones from the Wilderness Area.
