If any experienced hikers are interested, I would like to try a loop hike starting down Shinumo Creek, up Modred Abyss and then up to Lancelot Point. This will be all off trail and will require route finding and will probably be very brushy. Water shouldn't be much of a problem though. I'm thinking three days total (with two nights in the canyon) including driving to the North Rim from Phoenix.

I love this area, but I'll be in South Dakota. I haven't done the part closer to the Rim yet. I also want to do Elaine Castle.

Fun, but I can't make it. From my beta, the red route near your "may not work" marker may be a little off, I have a note: bypass climb down cliff on north side of east arm of side drainage. But I cannot guarantee its accuracy.
There's supposed to be a lot of crappy climbing, also several spots you will need ropes for pack hauls.
The abyss cave, waterfall, and ruins are supposed to be upstream of the junction where you climb out.
Good luck, have fun, and stay safe.

Dang, if this was in November I'd be in. I'm taking 3weeks vacation from Halloween until Nov 23rd!
Let me know if you doing anything in there.
I know I'm plotting for a 4 or 5 day tanner to hermit thru hike... I might also be heading out Nankoweap to lees ferry for 12 days. We'll see which works.
Let me know!
