What I do when I'm not hiking; Besides Chores at Home!
:rollH: O.K. guys and gals, on occasions I have mention that I run/jog. Here is the proof in the pudding, P.V. Days, 4th Annual, 5K Run. June 28th, 2003. Don't laugh at me now.

And I will say, the Phoenix New Times 10K is my favorite, though I have not ran in in a few years.

I compete in the Scottish Highland Games all over the west coast and here in Arizona. In fact, I'll be competing in Flagstaff July 19th if anyone wants to check it out.
I also powerlift and am currently training for strongman competitions. I get my cardio done with hiking. I'm Originally from Texas, but I love Arizona now!

I'll play racquetball with youI'll play racquetball! I am not incredibly good but as with hiking I love to play and I play hard! Any one up for a game?

Abe: that's great how you and your friend Jack run the same event every year. My oldest son Jason and I have ran the annual Thanksgiving Turkey Trot here in Mesa, for the last three years, basically, that is every year that I have lived here; it's mine and Jason's special thing to do with each other each year.
I like to do light weight lifting, running, and poetry/short stories, and building quality relationships with people, which makes life a lot more enjoyable.

I am at the gym about 4 x a week, do pool workouts and speedwalk on the canal(not now during the ozone alert) a few early mornings or after sunset. Also play on computer, take African Dance classes(when I can afford them), go to haircolor classes, hang out with buds and the cats. Sometimes go to a movie on Mondays,if my hiking buds are gone. Also go to the Library and catch up on some reading.

That's great, so do you have a love for all dance or just African Dance in particular? I love Latin Dancing, such as: Salsa, merengue, and Country dance too, even though I am not a huge fan of Country music. I like partner dancing, not the typical club, meat market type atmosphere. One type of dance I have always been interested in learning was Ball Room Dancing, call me crazy, but I think it looks so graceful and amazing, sort of like ballet; I like watching ballet.

I am here to tell you dancing is good exercising. Don't do much of it, but when I have, it wore me out. Frankly, I am not coordinated enough to do any serious dancing, I don't have the rhythm, the beat, nor am I smooth. I am about as graceful as an albatross coming in for a landing after a long flight over the ocean.
O.k. enough about my inability to dance, or lack of skill thereof. Well, let me end by saying I do like to watch women dance.

I do not do the gym thing, but I do use my Total Gym 1500 (love the dang thing) at home five times a week, well mostly Monday thru Friday before I go to work. I work-out early in the morning between 3:00 and 4:00, while I watch VH-1. I clock in at work at 5:30 A.M.
And then, I run in the afternoons a minimum of three times a week. No less than 4.1 miles a run. :rollH:
Naturally, I like to hike, backpack when I can, read (my goal is to read every Edward Abbey book), and on occasions write Hiakus.

I am currently taking ballroom/latin dance and i absoultely love it. I am learning everything from waltz to swing (one of my favorites) to salsa, rumba (another favorite) and many more types of dance. I go about 3 or more times a week and cant get enough of it! I also know bellydancing too.

Everyone here seems so athletic, and ambitious. I just wish I could find the time to do the things I like to do. I can't even go for a walk around my block without it being a hassle (too many commitments). My first love is caving though, second is kayaking (inflatable Aire) the Verde. Other than these things, I don't get any inbetween exercise :-( I definitely need to get out more. It's never enough.

Abe, you crack me up
, I think you are hilarious
I too work out on the Total gym and as you put it best, "love the dang thing." I have not ran in months but went for my fist run this morning, believe it or not
(I did, truly I did). I have suffered bone problems, a broken bone in my ankle from (don't laugh anyone
), from falling of the tread mill
, and that hurt, was in a boot cast for several months, then I severely twisted the opposite ankle while taking a late night run, and tripping up after stepping in a hole; really screwed up my ankle bad. So.....since then I have been taking the ol' glucosamine and chondroitin for my joints, been having a lot of problems with them. Okay, okay, I know , I'm just going to have the face the fact that I'm getting older and losing bone density and just can't do some of the things I used to do; sucks getting old.

I read too, mostly to "good book" and literature related to it. What is Hiakus?
In response to Elaine2003:
That is so cool, dance is so much fun. I remember going to the clubs every weekend when I was your age, and I could dance all night. It always seemed that the guys that knew how to dance, had all the women begging to dance with them. Even if the guy was not so blessed in the looks department, he always had his pick of woman to dance with, if he knew how to dance, and knew how to lead. It seems to me that most women love to dance, so there should be more men that take an interest in it; they just don't know what their missing!
In response to speleogenesis:
I think the fact that you like caving and kayaking is cool, kayaking is something that I would like to get into in the future. We can only do what we can, I hear you about wondering how to find the time to do all the things you would like to do; you can't, so don't even try. Do what you can, and then sometimes put off what "needs to be done" and go do something you want to do. The "needs to be done" things in our life, will ALWAYS, ALWAYS, BE THERE

I never had a problem with guys like you, who didn't want to dance, I just pulled them out on the dance floor and danced around them
In response to what Rodney said:"Usually I work, work and if there's any extra time...more work! "
We (the HAZ members) need to loosen you up, we need to get you away from all that work! The HAZ BBQ should be at least one night to rest, laugh, and think of anything other than work
In response to what Snick33 said:"I used to do Bronco Busting but I busted one up pretty bad last year because of how much weight I gained. . . . . . "
What is Bronco Busting??????

In response to what Nighthiker said:"Camping (including bicycle camping), bicycling (street and mtn. trail), writing."
Your biking on a full moon night sounds so very cool, I see you bikers out there on the trails, I don't know how you bike up some of those steep areas, much less, how you ride down them, without killing yourselfs!
So, what kind of stuff do you write about?
