Where to go for my first AZ overnighter?

Post by AZ_Hiker »

as it turns out it looks like I will have the last weekend in july all to myself. So I thought I would go for my first AZ overnighter. I could use a little help. here is what Im looking for and maybe the rest of you could give your advice.. you are the experts here

I will most likely be going alone sense I dont know anyone yet. so it will need to be in and out to the same trail head. something 8 to 12 miles and 1000 to 1500 elevation + or -. some water would be good but I dont want have wet feet the whole time. flagstaff, payson or sadona are all fine. I also have a 4x4 so I can get to just about anywhere and love offraoding. I dont know if I asking to much?

thanks

Hellsgate via Young. Aprox 8 miles round trip, there's water and depending on what kind of 4x you have you'll be glad you have one. But isn't that the weekend of the BBQ?

Hi AZ_HIker,

I'm on the Welcome Wagon committee, the sign up is on the home page under HAZ group, BBQ. You need to sign up by clicking the link at the bottom about being 18, you will get approved and then can post what you want to bring.

Hope this helps,

Sheri (sherileeaz)

Above the names that signed up is a list that Joe set up, Joe has it in red on how to submit what you are bringing, but basically you use the "edit" key in your message box, you put in there what you are bringing (what ever is still needed from the list above the members), then Joe will put your name next to the items you are bringing. So you will need to go back to that forum and see what is all there.

Looking forward to meeting you and everyone!

Try this hike, it is spectacular and perfect for summer months:

It is a bit longer than you asked, but you can leave your pack at the campsite and dayhike down to Sentinel Peak. Or if you want to shorten the trip you could aim for Chiricahua Peak or Snowshed Peak instead.
