Looking for beginner backpacking trails

Post by SteveHall »

I am looking for trail suggestions for first backpacking trip. Doesn't have to be the easiest trail, but I want to take my parents and my Mom's knees can't handle a lot of steep down hill hiking. 3-4 nights possible layover.

Thanks

Steve

:welcome:

You'll have to give us a little more information.

Are you thinking of doing this in the next few weeks? Spring? Summer?

How many miles do you think you want to hike each day?

Even without that information I would recommend trying a single overnight somewhere before embarking on 3-4 days. It will help you understand what's good and bad about the gear you have, how much food and water you consume, etc.
I'm not sure what my spirit animal is, but I'm confident it has rabies.

@chumley
Thanks for the reply. Plan to go sometime in March. That will give me time to do a few overnighters as you suggested. Not sure how many miles, should start off slow and figure out my pace.

Hmm, you have no hikes to your profile. March is excellent Superstitions backpacking weather. I would suggest an overnight into Charlesbois spring, to keep the elevation down hike in from first water: http://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=25

If your mom has bad knees, I doubt she will make it more than a few miles when backpacking and the above trip will not be suitable.

I would suggest doing a few overnights before doing a 3-4 day trip.
