Pretty Amazing Rock Art around there....
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty & well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, totally worn out & proclaiming, "Wow What a Ride!"

Whenever I make the drive to Yuma, I'm tempted to stop and explore. Painted Rock isn't an isolated site; that whole area is rife with signs of the past.

I did go over there last year. Campground was just awful. Ugly, no shade, no trees, too many rules. Couldn't figure out how to get to the lake to kayak. I guess it's off limits. I didn't see anything interesting since there was no way to find out where anything was. I probably won't go back over there. At least I think we are talking about the same place. I was excited to go camp there, but ended up driving all the way to Tucson instead.

I always like to say I've been someplace twice, the first and last time.

I find it fascinating that we have so much trouble preserving desert areas...there's still this idea that its a "wasteland". The more we can emphasize the breadth of human history in these regions, the more we can promote the idea that it is in fact a rich and vibrant environment. Heck yeah, I'll sign that pumpkin!

I attended a presentation on this and I have spent a lot of time out their in the past on some of the proposed lands. Long overdue for monument status.

Well donchaknow that they'd be better served by being paved with solar panels to feed the cities where "real" Americans live. No one lives in the backwater deserts, right?
